September's Grumpy Roaster: Altiplano (Guatemala)

| /

September's Coffee of the Month:

  • Region: Quetzaltenango, Guatemala
  • Process: Fully Washed, Patio Dried, SHB, EP
  • Altitude: 1400 - 2000 MASL
  • Roast Level: Medium-Dark
  • Sensory Notes: Caramel, Pepper, Sugar Cane, Blood Orange

The Guatemalan Altiplano, meaning ‘plateau’ in Spanish, is known for majestic mountains and scattered volcanoes. The FECCEG cooperative also calls this area home. The co-op is made up of nearly 2,000 small farms throughout the region and that diversity has produced a coffee with a lively set of sensory notes. I decided on a medium-dark roast level for this coffee in order to calm down some of these ‘jumpy’ notes and add some stability. What that has left us with, is a smooth and sweet coffee with just enough citrus and spice to keep us on our toes. Take a trip to the plateau and give Altiplano a try today!!
